Ejnar Hertzsprung, a Danish Astronomer in the late 1800s, grew up most of his life staring at the stars.
His father was fascinated by astronomy, but couldn’t afford to make a living out of that profession, so he gave up the dream and settled for accounting.
He encouraged Ejnar to do the same.
As Ejnar tried to give up his love for astronomy, an inner connectedness to the night sky always drew him back.
So, eventually, he went with it. Ejnar Hertzsprung set aside the life he was told to live, so he could embrace the eternal one his soul desired.
He spent the rest of his life looking up at the stars.
Studying them.
Understanding their creation.
And inevitably becoming a little more acquainted with their Creator.
The imagery of this story inspires me. Setting aside worldly demands to become more acquainted with eternal concepts.
Taking time to “look up”.
What if we made “looking up” a priority? How would our relationship with our Father in Heaven change?
Now I’m not talking about just stargazing more. I’m talking about REALLY looking to God more.
Would we be quicker to kneel when we need guidance or strength?
Would we be more open to receiving His direction? Or to share our knowledge about Him and His gospel with others?
All great questions that we won’t know until we take time to “look up” more often and feel His love.
He knows you. He loves you. He is watching over you.
Don’t forget to look up.
